2013 – Satavee Kijsanayotin

satavee250The University of Minnesota College of Design has chosen Satavee Kijsanayotin to be the 2013 SPQR  Fellow. Below you will find her application material and photo. I had a chance to Skype with Satavee (She also goes by Steevie) and she filled me in with some details not in the application. She also expressed surprise to see that her Studio professor, Adam Dull, was also an SPQR recipient.

Satavee was born in Bangkok and came to Minneapolis (at the age of nine) with her parents, who each received their Ph. D at the University. Her father is a physician and also a officer with Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health. Her mother is an associate professor of pharmaceutical studies at Chulalongkorn University, Thailand.   They returned to Thailand in 2008 when Satavee was 16. She and her brother stayed in Minneapolis. Steevie graduated from DelaSalle High School and is currently pursuing her Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture and minor in art. Her brother is now getting his Ph D in electrical engineering at University of California San Diego.

Satavee/Steevie will be going with the University’s Istanbul program which first spends the month of February in Rome. This in the course description:
Rome: Drawing (-in) the Eternal City An immersive drawing class that will study, analyze and investigate the spaces of the buildings, landscapes, monuments and public spaces of Rome.  The course will also include site visits to Ostia Antica and Tivoli.”

Thanks to everyone for your donations. This is going to be an exceptional year.
